#BoostMyBio for Pitch Wars

We’re only two weeks away from Pitch Wars and I couldn’t be more excited. Like many of my writing community friends, I’ve been waiting all year to submit my manuscript. You can find details about me and my book in the following #BoostMyBio post. I’m grateful for the opportunity to enter.

The Genre: YA Fantasy

The Title: GUARDIANS OF PEACE

Think:

One Sentence Pitch:

A magical military recruit and an obedient general discover they have a common enemy and it’s not the country they’ve been warring against.

The Full Pitch:

If eighteen-year-old London Cole had it her way, she would punch the High Ruler square in the face. Thanks to him, she has found herself drafted, a position she was never supposed to be in, even though her country is constantly at war and she possesses a rather desirable skill set. Yes, she can kill a man in six different ways, slink past eight guards in a second, and wield water as a weapon, but that’s beside the point. The High Ruler made her parents a promise, two all-star awards granting them the right to release their daughter from eligibility. Eighteen years later, he broke his vow, assassinating her parents and drafting her like the coldblooded opportunist he is.

She’s supposed to be happy, but she never wanted to spend her life in the elite military class, bolstering her parents’ legacy and giving up her rights to marry. Not to mention, killing enemy soldiers for her country’s gain feels like murdering innocent people, despite the glory it would bring her. So, she’s determined to win her freedom no matter the odds. Meeting General Callum Whelan, a man who commands the entire army while looking rather good doing it, only heightens her ambition as she envisions more than just fighting beside him. But when she discovers her parents were not, in fact, the decorated war heroes they claimed to be, she realizes all of Pilleum has a stake in her future. Is she the Gods-blessed daughter of two lieutenants drafted to increase her nation’s power or the rebel savior meant to tear it apart? Everyone has a plan for London. It’s time to come up with one for herself.

About Me:

As a child I wanted to be cowgirl, because who doesn’t want to wear cowboy boots and destroy bad guys? I’m a writer and a career coach, so that plan definitely worked out.

I’m addicted to french fries, but I have limited that ferocious want to the weekends. You’ll often find me running off said addiction on any given day.

I have a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in counseling, which basically means I’m fascinated by human nature, motivation, and personality.

I love a good IPA on a fall day and the first sip of black coffee in the morning. My husband thinks I’m a cowboy for drinking coffee without cream or sugar, which makes me smile because I’ve finally accomplished my childhood career goal. I’m living the dream.

Like any self-respecting YA fantasy author, I love Harry Potter. Gryffindor for life.

I attend yoga class every week where I try to look like I belong.

I’m a fan of SFF, upmarket fiction, women’s fiction, and romance. Pretty much anything with a strong female lead, compelling voice, and winding plot will draw me in. Oh and I love nonfiction, particularly self-help. See counseling degree. Rachel Hollis, Gretchen Rubin, and Malcolm Gladwell are my jam.

I’m entering Pitch Wars this year because I would love a mentor to help guide my girl London Cole through her twisted life. Thanks for considering my pitch.
